Technical Administrator Internal Automation

Where you will work
SURF is the collaborative organisation for IT for Dutch education and research. We work together with educational and research institutions on IT facilities and IT innovation. This allows us to optimally utilise the opportunities of digitisation. In addition, we work closely with various research communities and other providers of expertise and IT facilities. We do this in the national and international research field. Together, we increase the quality of education and research with our digital services and complex innovation issues.
The team you will join
In our growing organisation, the Internal Services SURF department supports the internal organisation with system, network, data centre services and office automation in close cooperation with the Information Management team.
You will be part of the Operational Support team. This team brings information systems into production and keeps them that way. Together, these two teams ensure that the functionality, performance and continuity of our services continue to meet the needs of SURF and our members. You will work with your colleagues, both within Internal Services and beyond, in a pleasant and collegial atmosphere.
What you will do
You will be responsible for the various ICT environments and the underlying Linux platforms, databases, interfaces and plug-ins. You will draw up documentation and guarantee the quality, continuity and security of SURF services for our customers and users. You will have a technically challenging role with great colleagues in an organisation that matters. Thanks to your affinity with technology, you enjoy figuring things out for yourself, and SURF gives you plenty of room to do so.
Other tasks you will handle
- You will maintain and manage the IT systems and environments from a technical and operational perspective, identify bottlenecks and make suggestions for improvement.
- You maintain and test existing hardware and software and implement improvements. You also install hardware and software solutions.
- You support the rollout/replacement of systems and are responsible for the availability and performance of the various IT environments. You also collect and assess data regarding the performance and security of the systems. You identify and address anomalies and risks.
- You resolve complex incidents and provide third-line support. You also develop and/or implement software and tooling to automate as many tasks as possible.
- Together with Information Management, you translate functional questions into solutions.
- Together with your colleagues, you remain critical and are constantly learning and improving.
Your skills and experience
- You have a higher professional education level of thinking and working and at least 2 years of work experience;
- You have knowledge of and experience with Linux and scripting. This includes Bash, Python, Powershell and Applescript; You have knowledge of and experience with Linux system management, command line tools and scripting;
- Preferably, you have knowledge of and experience with Atlassian JIRA, Confluence and related platforms. In addition, you have knowledge of and experience with automation (for example, Ansible). Knowledge of ITIL and Agile is a plus.
- You are able to work autonomously. You also have excellent technical and communication skills. You also think and act based on business objectives and the added value for the customer.
- You have a good command of the Dutch and/or English language, both spoken and written.
