The team you will join
You will be joining the Data Services department, part of the Advanced Solutions for Research unit. This unit provides computing and data services and ensures they remain future-proof through continuous innovation. Within the Data Services department, you will be part of the Data Center Operations & Networking team (currently 10 FTE), a team with extensive expertise in data center networking and operations.
Together with your team, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, scalability, performance, and security of the existing data center networks. Setting up new data centers is also a possibility. You and your colleagues will ensure that the infrastructure is continuously improved and that new functionalities are developed. You will do this using the agile methodology and the Scrum framework.
What you will do
As a Senior Network DevOps Engineer, you ensure a stable and fast network—an essential foundation for all our services. You work on the design, development, security, and management of our data center networks, and maintain connections with the outside world. You provide support for incidents and specialized support requests, analyze the causes of complex outages and incidents, resolve them, and propose improvements for structural issues.
Other responsibilities include:
- You design, manage, and improve data center networks and ensure technical and process-based operationalization
- You design and set up the necessary infrastructure for managing the networks and services, and you oversee the operational management processes
- You collect and evaluate data regarding the performance and security of the networks. You identify anomalies and risks and take appropriate action
- You develop, test, and/or implement software and tools to support the service
- You contribute to the development of the long-term vision
- You foster knowledge development and enjoy sharing knowledge based on your own expertise
Your skills and experience
You are an experienced network specialist with a strong technical foundation and an eye for future-proof solutions. You work in a structured manner, communicate clearly, and feel at home in complex infrastructure environments.
In addition, you have:
- A college or university level of education and thinking, with at least 7 years of relevant work experience
- Experience with Linux and various network devices (e.g., Cisco, Arista, Nvidia/Mellanox, Nokia, HPE-Juniper, Fortigate)
- Preferably experience with multi-vendor networks
- Extensive experience with network technologies such as OSPF, BGP, L3VPN, EVPN, VXLAN, MLAG
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python and Bash, and with automation tools such as Ansible and Git(Lab)
- Experience with designing data center networks
- Strong documentation skills
- Preferably experience with Agile, Scrum, ITSM, or ITIL
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English
