Technical Advisor eduID

Apply

Research and education are increasingly using online applications. Fundamental to this is our eduID service: a single independent digital identity for education and research. Would you like to help all our members integrate and use eduID? Being the link between people and technology – that's what you love! Would you like to join our team?

Where you will work

SURF is the ICT cooperative for Dutch educational and research institutions. Together with them, we work on digital services and complex innovation challenges to enhance the quality of education and research. As a technical advisor for eduID, you contribute by working to integrate an indispensable foundation, identity and access management, into the systems and processes of SURF members. You do this for all students, lecturers, researchers and staff in the sector.

The team you will join

The Trust & Identity team is a team of various specialists. We are experts in various fields: authentication and authorisation in a federated context (think of protocols such as SAML and OpenID Connect and emerging technologies such as Identity Wallets), infrastructure (such as Linux, Ansible, Docker), and (open source) software development: we develop our own services in Java, Python and PHP, among others. Our service portfolio consists of SURFconext, SURFsecureID, eduID and SURF Research Access Management (SRAM). Would you like to know more? Take a look here.

We value team spirit, cooperation and collegiality: based on our individual specialisations, we share knowledge, ask each other for input and make joint decisions about the (further) development of our services. Your personal expertise and learning needs are therefore very important to us: depending on what you bring to the table and what you want to specialise in, we will work with you to determine which tasks and responsibilities suit you best!

What you will do

Within the Trust & Identity team, the eduID product team is specifically responsible for delivering and further developing the eduID service. As a technical advisor, you support and advise institutions on how they can best use eduID and other building blocks of the Trust & Identity service portfolio. Because each institution has its own IT landscape and specific needs, you assist with technical integrations of eduID, monitor various processes and ensure that the eduID documentation meets the needs of institutions in order to move forward.

You actively maintain contact with institutions and users, identify their needs and translate these into concrete requirements. You discuss these requirements with the (technical) product manager of eduID, which can lead to improvements or new functionalities. In addition, you actively participate in and contribute to the eduID development processes; you work out proposed changes and discuss them with the eduID product team. You will also “represent” the institutions and their users here, and help the (technical) product managers assess the impact of the proposed changes.

Other tasks you will handle

  • You will contribute to the vision, roadmaps and new services of the Trust and Identity team.
  • You maintain and develop relationships with institutions, users, application suppliers and developers, among others.
  • You contribute ideas to the eduID product team about challenges and solutions for eduID.
  • You maintain an internal and external network of contacts and (international) partnerships.

Your skills and experience

You are curious, collaborative and understand that at SURF, we can only move forward together. You actively listen to the needs of our members, enjoy brainstorming with colleagues and share your knowledge within a team of experts. Thanks to your strong communication skills, you feel comfortable in a variety of conversations and have an eye for the public values that SURF stands for.

  • You have a university level of thinking and working and relevant work experience.
  • You have up-to-date knowledge of and demonstrable (coordinating) experience with modern internet protocols, digital services and/or software development.
  • You are familiar with/within the education world and have experience with IT solutions tailored to education.
  • You have experience with and/or interest in identity and access management.

SURF takes pleasure in doing its recruitment itself; acquisition is therefore not appreciated.
