Technical Project Lead LSRIs

Apply

Do you have an eye for the IT needs of researchers and do you see opportunities to connect innovation and existing services? Are you entrepreneurial, do you enjoy working in a team and does strengthening research infrastructure give you energy? Then we would love to speak to you!

Where you will work

SURF is the IT cooperative of Dutch education and research institutions. Together with them, we work on digital services and complex innovation issues to improve the quality of education and research. Large-scale infrastructures for research workflows are a good example of this. As a technical project manager LSRI, you will ensure that these are realized.

Working at SURF means working in a unique and open organisation. This is evident in everything we do: the structure of the organisation, the composition of the project teams, the culture in our offices and the atmosphere among our colleagues. SURF offers excellent terms of employment and a flexible work-life balance. Our employees enjoy working independently. In addition, everyone is given the space and freedom to use and develop their talents to the fullest extent possible.

The team you will join

The Research Infrastructures Team works to meet the diverse needs of research communities by acting as their strategic partner for innovative IT and research infrastructure solutions. Openness, collaboration, drive and ambition characterize our team.

What you will do

You will be responsible for managing a set of LSRI (Large Scale Research Infrastructures) projects aimed at creating research infrastructures to support research workflows. You will act as a bridge between the customer, the technology and the project organisation. You will have final responsibility for the successful delivery of IT solutions within scope, on time and within budget. You will coordinate a team of experts from various departments within SURF. In doing so, you will contribute your knowledge of research processes within and across scientific domains, project management skills, and some technical insight into the creation, connection and integration of various services.

Other tasks you will handle

As a technical project manager at LSRI, you will be responsible for:

  • You initiate, lead and successfully deliver LSRI projects, translating user requirements into concrete applications and results.
  • You draw up project documentation and manage planning, budget, risks and progress reports.
  • You coordinate with stakeholders within and outside SURF and manage their expectations.
  • You put together project teams with the right expertise, coordinate cooperation between teams and monitor the use of resources.
  • You manage escalations, report to the steering group and supervise the transfer to the service department.

Your skills and experience

You are an experienced and enterprising professional with sharp analytical skills and excellent communication skills. You have extensive experience in project and technical product management within the research domain and combine your insight into both functional and technical IT aspects with a results-oriented and environmentally conscious approach. You feel at home in a dynamic environment and know how to take initiative, even under pressure.

  • You have a higher professional education (HBO+) or academic level of working and thinking and at least 5–7 years of relevant experience, including functional management of (technical) professionals.
  • You have experience with Agile/Scrum and traditional project methodologies such as PRINCE2 or IPMA; a relevant certificate is an advantage.
  • You are stress-resistant, enterprising and take the initiative.
  • You have an excellent command of the English language and at least a basic knowledge of Dutch.
  • You are environmentally conscious and know how to work in a results-oriented manner within complex projects.

SURF takes pleasure in doing its recruitment itself; acquisition is therefore not appreciated.
