Where you will work

SURF is the IT cooperative for Dutch educational and research institutions. Together with them, we work on digital services and complex innovation challenges to enhance the quality of education and research. As a Quantum & AI Consultant, you will contribute significantly to improving our quantum computing capabilities and operational machine learning practices.

The team you will join

You will work with two dynamic teams: High-Performance Machine Learning (HPML) and Quantum Computing teams. In an exploratory environment, you will participate in various projects that match your interests and expertise. The Quantum Computing team accelerates quantum readiness in Dutch educational and research institutions, while the HPML team is committed to broad application of AI in research and education. We also deploy AI for best operational application with machine learning.

What you will do

You will stimulate interest and increase activity in Quantum Computing and Machine Learning Operations among our users. Importantly, you will develop quantum computing use cases and support and develop a hybrid quantum-HPC infrastructure. You will also create tools to make quantum computing easier to access, facilitate the application of ML techniques in scientific workflows, and develop AI-driven operational processes and tooling.

What else will you be involved in

• You design algorithms and programming frameworks for AI-driven insights .
• You design programming frameworks for quantum computing
• You support the development of surrogate models and digital twins.
• You work closely with stakeholders and translate with them operational needs into actionable AI solutions.
• You facilitate workshops, presentations and training on best practices in quantum computing and AI.
• You actively participate in events to build community and knowledge sharing.

Your skills and experience

You have an MSc or PhD in technical sciences (e.g., electrical engineering, physics, computer science), complemented by at least five years of relevant work experience. You possess deep quantum computing and machine learning expertise, especially operational AI.

In addition, you:

• You have an MSc or PhD in engineering sciences (e.g. electrical engineering, physics, computer science), complemented by at least five years of relevant work experience. You have in-depth expertise in quantum computing and machine learning, in particular operational AI.
• You have strong algorithmic and programming skills (e.g. Python, C++, Qiskit, TensorFlow).
• You have experience developing applications and tools.
• You understand hybrid HPC-Quantum infrastructures.
• You have experience with digital twin concepts and surrogate modelling.
• You excel at translating complex technical concepts into practical applications.
