Product Manager Campus Network

Apply

Do you have a soft spot for network infrastructure for education and research? You will feel like a fish in water, whether in your role as product manager of a service or as product owner in service and/or software development. You will swim! Do you love technology as much as you love business cases? Are you persuasive and can you convince others to use new services? Then this vacancy is definitely for you!

Where you will work

SURF is the ICT cooperative for Dutch educational and research institutions. Together with them, we work on digital services and complex innovation challenges to enhance the quality of education and research.

The team you will join

You will be working in the Campus and Wireless Network Infrastructure team. We develop and provide services in the broad field of wired and wireless network technology. We provide unlimited connectivity on and around campus with the services eduroam, iotroam and SURFwireless (WiFi-as-a-service). We are also developing services such as Network as a Service, Campus Firewall and Smart Campus.

We give you plenty of room to think and we value your input. If there is one team within SURF that is all about cooperation and socialising, it is us. Whether it is in the workplace, at an educational or research institution or during one of our team-building days: we are always and everywhere connected with each other.

What you will do

As Product Manager Campus Network Services, you will be financially and functionally responsible for a number of projects and services. Initially, you will be responsible for the services eduroam, eduroam visitor access (international) and geteduroam. Through the Campus Network as a Service programme, you will contribute to the development of new services and, in time, you will take on a permanent role in this.

  • You initiate, develop and deliver services that enable students, teachers and researchers to make better use of their network connection. You draw up concrete and realistic plans for this together with the team.
  • Together with education and research institutions and colleagues from SURF, you develop new and existing services. You also encourage them to get started.
  • You create and implement business models, business cases and roadmaps for existing and new services.
  • You draw up budgets, report on them and ensure that the services and developments fit in with SURF's portfolio development process and the standards for sustainability, privacy and security.
  • You actively manage stakeholders and communicate as easily with engineers as with ICT management.
  • During the realisation phase, you represent the interests of the user and the knowledge institution. You like to visit institutions and maintain contact with secondary vocational schools, universities of applied sciences, research institutes and university medical centres. You also maintain contact with our international sister organisations for joint development or services.

Your skills and experience

  • You have a university or higher professional education level of working and thinking;
  • You have work experience in and/or demonstrable knowledge of and affinity with at least:
    • Product management of digital services;
    • Campus network technology and protocols: such as: 802.1x, RADIUS, eduroam, Ipv4/IPv6, Ethernet, WPA2-enterprise, V(X)LAN, Network Access Control, wifi;
    • Coordination / product owner software development for various operating systems, including mobile devices (iOS, Android)
  • You have experience representing the interests of various stakeholders; in addition, you have experience providing ICT services and/or identifying (latent) needs for such services within educational and/or research institutions;
  • You are service and customer-oriented and have a good sense of political relationships.
  • You have good verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English.

SURF takes pleasure in doing its recruitment itself; acquisition is therefore not appreciated.
