Where you will work

SURF is the IT cooperative for Dutch educational and research institutions. Together with them, we work on digital services and complex innovation challenges to enhance the quality of education and research.

The team you will join

The Network & Campus department at SURF includes the Wireless Network team. We develop and deliver all kinds of services in the broad field of wireless and mobile technology for the education and research sectors. We provide unlimited wire-free network access on and around campus through the services eduroam and SURFwireless (wifi-as-a-service) and innovation such as indoor 6G, network as a service, IoT platform and Smart Campus tools.

You will have plenty of space and to think with us and we value your input. If there is one team within SURF of collaboration and social togetherness, it is us. Whether on the workfloor, at an educational or research institution or during one of our team outings (such as a surprising and especially water-rich team building day), we are always and everywhere connected.

What you will do

Achieving an ordinary connection to the wireless network and nothing more. That is precisely what you will not do as our new Wi-Fi advisor SURFwireless. What then? You think along with the customer, listen to various wishes, list the options and only come up with the very best technical advice for the customer.
You also recognise the impact of the introduction of SURFwireless on the existing network environment at lightning speed. You then provide the customer with the right connection to the best wireless network. In short, with your technical knowledge and broad experience, you ensure that every migration is a real improvement.

Furthermore, you support the team with operational management of the WiFi environments of existing SURFwireless users. In addition, you will support our institutions in making optimal use of the SURFwireless environment during the entire lifetime of the service.

What else you will do as a SURFwireless WiFi consultant:

• You will work closely with the (technical) product managers. Thus, you contribute to innovation projects in the field of network infrastructure.
• You continuously improve and renew your technical knowledge in our ever-changing and growing organisation.
• You give advice on the realisation and implementation of our technical services.

Your skills and experience

At SURF, we lead the way in developing state-of-the-art network services for education and research. You do more than keep up: like SURF, you put your best foot forward to always go the extra mile.

Furthermore, you are enthusiastic, sociable and analytically strong; you understand very quickly what an institution needs and what problems might arise.

In addition, you have experience of working in processes and leading work in projects. This includes campus networks and realising wifi at large companies. You are good at listening, switching between tasks and translating wishes and needs into Dutch and English, both in your oral and written communication.

Furthermore, on your CV you have:

• hbo/wo working and thinking level;
• at least 4 years of relevant work experience in IT, preferably at various educational institutes (mbo/hbo/university) or large organisations;
• the necessary practical experience with relevant techniques such as network, radio planning, wifi, security and radius;
• Specific knowledge of RADIUS, DHCP, Ethernet and Enterprise WiFi;
• you understand RF designs of wifi networks and can assess them;
• up-to-date knowledge of Aruba can work to your advantage.

What we offer

At SURF, we are glad that you are there for us as a WiFi advisor SURFwireless 32-40 hours a week. We are happy to offer you something in return.

Not only will you sign a one-year contract with a view to permanent employment. We also have the following for you:

• A salary range between 4428 - 7267 EUR EUR gross (based on a 40-hour workweek) (wage level 2025);
• 8.33% vacation allowance and a fixed year-end bonus of 8.33%;
• 36 vacation days per year (based on a 40-hour workweek);
• A good pension plan with PNO Media, where you contribute only 1/8 of the premium, and SURF contributes 7/8;
• The possibility to work hybrid. You will receive a home office allowance on your remote working days;
• A first-class NS-Business card;
• Two great locations in Amsterdam and Utrecht, both with excellent public transport facilities. Your workplace will be: Utrecht. Our Utrecht office is within walking distance of Utrecht Central Station.
