Vacancy Information Architect Open Science
ApplyAs an information architect at SURF, you play a key role in designing a flexible, freely accessible and secure digital landscape in which educational and research institutions can collaborate and efficiently share information (open science). Together with experts, you create innovative solutions to help universities, universities of applied sciences and intermediate vocational education institutions make the step towards open science. Do you want to contribute to the future of research and do you like the challenge of taking infrastructure open science architecture to the next level? If so, we would love to hear from you!
This is where you will work
SURF is the IT cooperative of Dutch education and research institutions. Together with them, we work on digital services and complex innovation issues to increase the quality of education and research. Innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We are fully committed to experimenting, sharing knowledge and developing ICT services that advance education and research. As an open science information architect, you make an important contribution to this.
You will join this team
You will work in the multidisciplinary Open Science & Skills team that is part of the Innovation Core Team, a growing team of approximately 60 employees led by the Chief Innovation Officer (member of the Board of Directors). The core team focuses on innovations within education, research and technology. From this team you will join various innovation projects within the Innovation Zone Open Science Strengthen as an information architect. Together with colleagues and experts from research institutions, you contribute to shaping the architecture needed to realize the transition to open science.
This is what you will do
As an information architect, you work in various innovation projects on research innovation with ict. You design frameworks and solutions to enable innovation in research processes, you develop new services, and you design architectural principles that underlie new developments. You work closely with libraries, ict departments, policy departments and architects of knowledge institutions to investigate the impact of new developments and make appropriate architecture choices. Where necessary, you adapt the existing architecture and/or standards.
The themes you will work on are ‘open research information’ (open sharing of all information about publicly funded Dutch research) and ‘open scholarly communication’ (sharing as much information as possible from the entire research process).
What else will you be involved in:
- You advise innovation projects and identify relevant architectural choices and opportunities for joint solutions. To this end, you work out architecture sketches.
- You contribute to the (further) development of standards and agreement systems for information exchange in research processes. You also advise institutions on the application of these standards.
- In innovation projects, you help define and apply architecture frameworks and principles. Where necessary, you will draft a project start architecture (PSA) and/or solution architecture and assist in their implementation.
- You design target or institution-wide target architectures. You outline the frameworks for the use of information and standards, among other things, and you look at national and international developments. In doing so, you pay attention to security, privacy and ethics-by-design.
- You work closely with colleagues from different disciplines, such as (technical) product managers and community managers, but also with suppliers, developers and educational institutions.
This is what you bring
You have highly developed analytical skills and know how to turn technical challenges into pragmatic solutions. You are communicative, persuasive and enthusiastic about research support and architecture.
In addition, you have:
- hbo/wo thinking level and at least 4 years of relevant work experience
- knowledge of the research process and experience with privacy-by-design and security-by-design
- no difficulty whatsoever in collaborating and establishing relations between knowledge areas, parts of SURF and developments at institutions
- experience with modelling and exchanging metadata or research information
- preferably knowledge of and network/experience with higher education institutions and national reference architectures such as HORA or HOSA
- preferably experience with (managing) open-source software development in an innovative (research) environment
- - preferably experience with one or more standards such as Archimate or TOGAF
This is what you get from us
