Domain Architect AI and Data

Where you will work

SURF is the ICT cooperative for Dutch educational and research institutions. Together with them, we work on digital services and complex innovation challenges to enhance the quality of education and research. You will work closely with the National Growth Fund Programme Npuls, an eight-year programme designed to improve the quality of our education.

The team you will join

You will be working in the Architecture & Interoperability team. This team is part of the new Accessible and Open Education & Research unit and is responsible for the architecture in this entire domain. In your role, you will work closely with the teams within Npuls and SURF that deal with AI and data. These teams include, for example, (technical) product managers who are responsible for services within these themes.

What you will do

You will be building the digital environments of the future. At SURF, you will do this together with the architects in your team and with colleagues outside your team, such as (technical) product managers, project leaders and experts. You will also work closely with colleagues from Npuls and educational institutions. You will bring together information from various stakeholders to form a coherent whole, and you will feel a sense of ownership of this.

Other tasks you will handle

• You translate the needs of educational institutions in further education into coherent solutions.
• You are the link between the enterprise architect, technical product managers, suppliers, developers and educational institutions, and you participate in national working groups and consultations on architecture.
• You implement architectural principles from SURF and the education sectors and contribute to their further development.
• You contribute ideas to the strategy and long-term visions of projects and programmes.
• You actively seek coherence in the service portfolio within the themes of AI and data: you involve the relevant stakeholders both within and outside SURF.

Your skills and experience

• You are enthusiastic about topics related to AI and data. You also have extensive experience in these areas, for example with generative AI or Data Mesh architecture.
• You have technical and tactical insight, which you combine with a pragmatic attitude. In addition, you are a good communicator and a good listener. You also get people on board and thus ensure that solutions are widely supported.
• You enjoy working in a team and easily establish connections between different areas of expertise, education sectors, parts of SURF and Npuls, and developments at educational institutions. You have a university degree and at least eight years of relevant work experience.
• You have a thorough understanding and knowledge of architectural issues and ICT strategies, developments and their significance for universities, colleges and vocational education institutions.
• You have knowledge of and experience with privacy-by-design and security-by-design.
• You express yourself effortlessly in both Dutch and English (SURF has a bilingual policy).
• It is an advantage if you have knowledge, experience or a network at educational institutions and national reference architectures, such as the Education Reference Architectures (HORA & MORA) or the Education Sector Architectures (HOSA & MOSA).
• It is an advantage if you have experience with Archimate.
